Suspect Allegedly Kidnapped and Murdered Ex-Girlfriend, Had Abducted Her a Year Earlier, According to Police

A 20-year-old man from Georgia is facing serious charges after allegedly kidnapping and killing his ex-girlfriend in a tragic incident that unfolded at a Wingstop restaurant and culminated in a deadly confrontation with the police.

Man Kidnaps Ex-Girlfriend, Kills Her after Multi-County Chase in Georgia

Reports indicate that on Sunday night, around 11 p.m., the Fayetteville Police Department received calls reporting a kidnapping at a Wingstop restaurant on Flynn Street. Witnesses described a man entering the establishment, brandishing a gun, and coercing his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend, who worked there, to leave with him.

In response to the distress calls, officers en route to the scene identified a red Chevrolet Camaro matching the description provided by witnesses. A pursuit ensued, concluding at Lovejoy High School in Clayton County, where a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver was employed to stop the vehicle.

Stalled at the school's entrance, the suspect fired a shot at the pursuing officers, prompting them to take cover. During the standoff, the man allegedly fired multiple shots inside the vehicle, fatally injuring the young woman.

Law enforcement used a chemical irritant to force the suspect out of the car, subsequently taking him into custody. The victim, identified as Khaliyah Jones, was discovered shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

The accused kidnapper, 20-year-old Cameron Ja'Michael Hopkins of Albany, is now facing charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault from the Fayetteville Police Department, as well as malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime in Clayton County. Hopkins is set to appear in court on the murder charge on Tuesday.

Tragically, this is not the first time Hopkins has been involved in a kidnapping incident with the same victim. Almost exactly a year before the recent incident, on July 16, 2022, Hopkins and another individual allegedly forced 18-year-old Jones into a car at gunpoint. In that earlier case, both men were arrested on charges of terroristic threats, kidnapping, and more. However, Hopkins was released on bond in September 2022, prompting frustration from law enforcement.

The investigation into the recent incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department. The victim's family, still grappling with the tragedy, is not prepared to discuss the heartbreaking events at this time.
