Remembering Melania Trump: I Really Don't Care, Do You?

In June, Melania Trump visited McAllen, Texas, one of the sites of the family separation crisis caused by her husband's administration. On the back of her jacket, in white letters on an army-green background, were the words "I really don't care. Do U?" This sparked speculation as to what the message meant, with some suggesting it was aimed at President Trump, the media, or Democrats. The First Lady's spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, claimed there was no hidden meaning, but that was not true. In an interview with ABC News's Tom Llamas that aired on Friday night, Melania Trump said she wore the jacket to show the "left-wing media who are criticizing me" that she doesn't care. President Trump tweeted in June that the message was aimed at the "Fake News Media."

The truth about the jacket's message should have been acknowledged by the Trump administration, rather than lying. The administration has a history of ignoring the truth and responding to media criticism with falsehoods.
