Daycare Worker Hangs Children in Her Basement Verdict pt.1

Daycare Worker Hangs Children in Her Basement Verdict pt.1

A woman who used to run a daycare and was convicted of hanging a toddler has been sentenced to probation instead of a prison term. Nataliia Karia had faced 13 years in prison but received 10 years probation. She had also run over two men with her minivan before attempting suicide. All of the victims of the November 2016 incident survived their injuries. Karia asked for forgiveness through an interpreter and said, "I apologize and I don't know if you will be able to forgive me.

I have no excuse for what I did." Judge Jay Quam, who said this was one of the hardest cases he's ever had, gave her a stayed prison sentence of 183 months, which will be held over Karia's head if she violates probation. The prosecutor argued that mental illness is not a reason to give Karia probation instead of prison, and Claire Booth, the mother of the toddler, said she would not feel comfortable with simply probation based on prior actions and history.
