Bad Cops: Cop Shoots a Pregnant Woman

A video taken on a shaky cellphone shows the events leading up to the shooting of a woman who was later identified as Pamela Shantay Turner by a family member. Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris confirmed that Turner was not pregnant. The officer, who was patrolling an apartment complex in the Houston suburb of Baytown, recognized Turner from previous encounters and knew that she had outstanding warrants, according to police reports. The officer tried to arrest her, but Turner broke free, and the officer fired his Taser stun gun. She fell slowly to the ground, and a struggle ensued. According to Baytown police, Turner "was able to gain control of the Taser and used it on the officer." In the video, Turner appears to reach for the officer, who then stands back and fires five shots toward her.

The officer's name has not been released, but Baytown police said he is an 11-year veteran of the department and has been placed on paid administrative leave while authorities investigate. The Harris County District Attorney's Office is also assisting in the investigation, according to police reports. Floyd Rubin, who shares two children with Turner, stated that the police have not shared any details about the shooting with his family.

Turner's sister Antoinette told CNN affiliate KPRC that the woman has two children in their 20s and three grandchildren. Baytown police are asking the person who shot the cellphone video to come forward and help with the investigation, Dorris said. However, he expressed disappointment that the witness shared footage of the incident online. "It's unfortunate that somebody takes a tragic incident like this and starts posting it on social media," he said. "That's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved."
