6-year-old Hamilton girl escapes kidnapping attempt in front of her home

A 6-year-old girl has spoken out after narrowly escaping an attempted kidnapping outside her Hamilton home. The young girl was taking out the trash when a man suddenly grabbed her and attempted to take her away. The incident was captured on a doorbell camera at the family home, and police later arrested 33-year-old Deric McPherson on charges of abduction and inappropriate grabbing.

The girl recounted the terrifying experience to ABC News, explaining how she screamed when the man grabbed her, which she thinks caused him to let go. Her father drove off to follow the perpetrator and called the police. The family credits the girl's smart response and ability to fight off her attacker as the reason she was able to escape unharmed.

Child advocates Callahan Walsh from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children praised the girl's actions, noting that in more than 83% of cases where a child prevents an abduction, it's due to their proactive response. The family is understandably shaken by the incident but relieved that their daughter is safe.
