Trump told his supporters he lies about "Fake News"

Lesley Stahl, a veteran journalist for CBS’s “60 Minutes,” revealed during a talk at the Deadline Club of New York’s annual journalism awards that President Donald Trump told her he bashes the press to “demean” and “discredit” reporters so that the public will not believe negative stories about him. The event was held at the Harvard Club in Manhattan on Monday night, with PBS NewsHour host Judy Woodruff also in attendance. Stahl said that she and her boss had met with Trump at Trump Tower in Manhattan after the 2016 election, ahead of a recorded sit-down interview for “60 Minutes.”

 During the meeting, Trump began to attack the press, Stahl said. She asked him why he kept doing this even after he had won, and he responded by saying, “You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so that when you write negative stories about me, no one will believe you.” Stahl noted that Trump’s comment was an attempt to put the assembled journalists in their place.
