Kanye West selling out his own Culture for Political gain

Kanye West selling out his own Culture for Political gain

Kanye West made headlines on Sunday when he held his first presidential campaign rally in Charleston, South Carolina. Despite rumors that he had dropped out of the race, West showed up wearing a bulletproof vest and made a number of controversial statements.

During his rally, West criticized white companies for using Black symbols, using Harriet Tubman as an example. He claimed that she "never actually freed the slaves, she just had the slaves go work for other white people." The rapper also made other incendiary comments, such as "Democrats ain't done s— for Blacks" and that he went to the hospital because "my brain was too big for my skull."

West grew emotional when discussing his views on abortion and revealed that he did not want his then-girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, to go through with her pregnancy with their first child, North. The crowd cheered the artist on when he teared up.

Despite the sizable crowd, West's ramblings were met with booing and objections from the audience. Many took to social media to criticize West's statements and express concern for his mental health.

The rally was held just before South Carolina's filing deadline, and to get on the state's ballot, West needs to get 10,000 signatures by the following day. Currently, he is only on the ballot in Oklahoma, but his team is expected to announce more campaign events, including one in New York.
